What to Know About the Klaas`s Cuckoo in Uganda?
The Klaas’s Cuckoo in Uganda is one of the African Uganda Birds seen during Uganda birding safaris & Tours. It is a species in the family Cuculidae of the cuckoo. It is a common resident in the wooded regions of sub-Saharan Africa.
The Klaas`s cuckoo was named by French explorer François Le Vaillant- the only colonial biologist to name some bird species after local people. Klaas was his Khoikhoi servant.
How Does the Klaas`s Cuckoo in Uganda Look Like?
Klaas’s cuckoo is a small bird with a length 16–18 cm. The Klaas cuckoo displays sexual dimorphism. The male has a glossy-green body streaked with a few white and plain underparts.
Females have a bronze-brown body, greenish wing coverts and dimly striped, white underparts. while in flight, the male is looks white with dark primaries and females look brown.
Both sexes have a small white post-ocular patch.
How Does the Klaas’s Cuckoo in Uganda Feed?
Mainly insectivorous, specializing in butterflies and caterpillars. It usually forages in the foliage of trees or bushes, taking insects from leaves and occasionally hawking a flying insect.
