What to Know About the Collared Pratincole in Uganda?
The Collared Pratincole in Uganda is one of the African birds of Uganda seen during Uganda birding safaris & Tours. It is also called red-winged pratincole or common pratincole in the pratincole family and it is found in the Old-world countries- Africa, Europe and Asia. It is commonly found along shorelines and other areas near water hunting for food.
How Does the Collared Pratincole in Uganda Look Like?
This pratincole is a midsized bird 24–28 cm long and 60–70 cm wingspan. The legs are short, long pointed wings and forked tail.
The bill is short which is an adaptation to aerial feeding. The upperparts and head are brown. The brown wings have darker flight feathers. The lower parts are white but the chest nut is dark.
How Does the Collared Pratincole in Uganda Feed?
Pratincole birds are different from other waders. They naturally hunt their insect prey on the wing like swallows, although they can also feed on the ground.
