2 Days Mabamba Birding Tour – Highlights
Day 1: Encounter birds in UWEC and Entebbe Botanical Gardens
Day 2: Explore birds in Mabamba swamp.
The 2 Days Mabamba Tour encounter involves birding expeditions in Entebbe and Mabamba environs. Entebbe has great counts of birds in the botanical gardens and the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) while the fresh natural habitats of Mabamba offer ideal encounters for the rare shoe billed stork along with other notable Uganda safari bird species.
Day 1: Encounter birds in UWEC and Entebbe Botanical Gardens
Day 2: Explore birds in Mabamba swamp.
After an early breakfast from your place of residence, you will embark on the days birding experience within Entebbe environs. Explore the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) to explore a range of birds counting to 170 species including 7 weaver species like the rare northern masked weaver and orange weaver, sun birds and Kingfishers.
Continue to the botanical gardens to explore a range of 150 bird species including the Bare faced-go away bird, Red Chested, Klaas’s and Diederik Cuckoo, Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Great Reed Warbler, Striped, Malachite, Giant, Woodland and Pygmy Kingfishers, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Black Bishop, Grey Woodpecker, Olive, Red chested, Olive bellied, superb Sunbirds among other species. Retire for overnight.
Accommodation: Imperial Botanical Hotel (Upmarket/Luxury), Cassia Lodge (Midrange/Standard) or the Lodge (Budget/Basic).
Transfer after an early breakfast to Mabamba swamp which is about 50kms west of Kampala. On your way to the destination and at the destination, you will have opportunities of encountering White Shouldered Tit, Papyrus Gonolek, Red Cap, White Winged Warbler, Western Banded Snake Eagle, Weyns Weaver and White Spotted Fluftail.
Mabamba swamp offers ideal encounters with the rare and endangered shoebill stork along with other species like Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Jacanas, Grey herons, Ruffaus Squaco, Purple and Goliath Heron, Bellied Heron, the Pallid Harrier which is globally threatened and migrant species of blue swallow, egrets, ducks among others. The bird encounter is done on a canoe where you also have opportunity of encountering the elusive Sitatunga Antelope. You will retire and transfer back to Kampala.
