The sooty chat is one of the African bird species in Uganda seen during Uganda birding safaris and birding tours in Africa.
The Sooty chat is generally a small bird with length between 15 to 16 cm. it is stocky bird with a relatively short-tail.
The plumage of the female and young sooty chats is dark brown while the adult male is glossy black except for white patches on the upper wings.
Their song is prolonged, sweet and musical, usually heard in flight, wee tewee tuweer, skwik-skueeeeer, cueee-eeeee-cuweeeeer, eee-euwee-tee, tseuwee-tew-skweeer-tsi-seet….” The sooty chat sometimes imitates other birds.
