How Does the Finsch`s Rufous Thrush in Uganda Look Like?

Finsch’s flycatcher-thrushes has a length 18 to 20 cm. the upperparts of an adult are brown and the lower parts are orangish.

The grayer or olive nape and breast are more rufous at the rear of the body. They have dark brown tail with white corners. The pale cheeks and throat have gray and orange tints.

How Does the Finsch`s Rufous Thrush in Uganda Sing and Make Calls?

They utter four tuneful hoots, hooee, hooee hooee-huEE, that are slower lower-pitched. One call is four rapidly repeated notes, “tswe-tswe-tswe-tswe” with the variant “tsw-tsee… tsweeeee“; also, is an extended, mournful whistle wee… weeeee-eee.

When frightened by predators it gives a “buzzing word-word-word.” This species responds to recordings of its call.

It fastens insects in its bill l from under leaves while it hovers. Preferred insects of prey include termites, grasshoppers, ants, beetles, flies, and various small species.

A typical Neotropic mixed feeding flock moves through the forest at about 0.3 kilometers per hour with different species foraging in their preferred niches Some species follow the flock all day, while others like the long-billed gnatwren join it only as long as it crosses their own territories.
