The remarkably  diverse country Uganda, is situated in the East African region within the Nile basin along coordinates 1000N and 32000E on both sides of the equator.

Uganda is surrounded by Kenya in the East, Tanzania in the South, the Democratic Republic of Congo in the West, South Sudan in the North and Rwanda in the South West.

Sitting in this position Uganda is rendered Landlocked from the ocean. This however, is no reason to hinder adventure enthusiasts from enjoying adrenaline raising activities during their Uganda safaris since the country has immense water bodies including the Nile River-the world’s longest river.

Uganda is commonly known as the pearl of Africa because of the diversity it gains from her transitional position between the East African savanna, the west African rain forest and the semi-desert of the north.

The country covers 241,551km2 and of these, water bodies cover 41,028km2 and the land occupied by Africa’s hospitable people covers 200,523km2. Uganda has a cool tropical climate that favors Uganda tours with mean temperatures of up to 260C(780F) because of her position proximate to the equator.

The highest elevation point in Uganda is 5,109m(16,763ft) above sea level at Margherita peak on Mountain Rwenzori which is the 3rd highest peak in Africa and still the tallest mountain range in Africa.

The lowest point in Uganda is 614m above sea level within the great western rift valley in lake Albert, a great place for Uganda birding safaris with lots of bird endemics.

Uganda is exclusively adorned by a whole 1,060 Confirmed bird species! with 24 Albertine rift endemics and 1 country endemic, the Fox’s weaver.

The singing and whistling beautiful feathered savanna, forest, water, intra-Afro migrant and Euro-Asian migrant(palearctic) birds form 50% of Africa’s bird species and 11% of the bird species in the world.

The Albertine rift has 24 endemics with some of them being the Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin, Willard’s sooty Boubou, Dwarf Honey guide, Black-faced Apalis, Regal Sunbird, Strange weaver and many more unique bird species.

Bird species are diverse in Uganda because of the variety in habitats ranging from water bodies like Lakes, Rivers, deep valleys, marshes and swamps, African dense forests to open Savannah.

The country has for long been the enthusiast birders leading destination because it offers easy access to several bird-rich habitats during birding tours in Uganda within its boundaries.

The sought-after bird species by tourists on birding safari trips in Uganda include, the elusive shoebill stork that is best sighted at Mabamba bay wetland at the edge of Lake Victoria-the world’s largest continental lake.

The other bird species include the country’s endemic (it’s found only in Uganda) known as the Fox’s weaver that can be sighted in Eastern Uganda wetland marshes in the vicinity of Lake Opeta and Lake Bisina. Uganda welcomes the Euro-Asian migrant(palearctic) birds like the white winged terns and Teals.

Endowed with perfect spots for birding safaris in Uganda where one can sight up to a total of 1078 bird species especially within the swamp wetlands like Mabamba and Lutembe bay wetlands on the shores of Lake Victoria, forests like Budongo forest and the national parks, Uganda is the world`s leading birding destination.
